Stress Management for Small Business Owners
By: Mary White, Americanentrepreneurship.com

It's a fact that running a small business is stressful. When you bear the ultimate responsibility for the success or failure of your own business, there's no way to eliminate the experience of stress. It's also important to note that stress isn't necessarily a bad thing. Stress is something that everyone lives with to some degree at all times, with levels varying based on a variety of factors.

Stress can inspire you to greatness, or it can be a negative factor that can keep you from accomplishing your goals or even make you physically ill. In order to use stress as a positive factor rather than allowing it to be a negative influence, what you need to do is learn how to effectively manage the stress that you're bound to experience as a small business owner.

3 Tips for Small Business Owners to Manager Stress

1. Learn to Recognize Stress - In order to effectively manage stress, you must first learn how to recognize it. Not everyone experiences the same symptoms of stress. Some people experience physical signs of anxiety, such as a pounding heart rate, racing pulse, or tightening in the chest. Others feel the urge to eat or drink too much or to smoke. Some individuals feel a sense of panic or develop an inability to make a decision. By recognizing how stress manifests itself in your life, you'll be able to take steps to handle the emotion properly.

Ontario Budget Aims to Help Battered Businesses
By: Robert Benzie

Ontario will spend its way through the worldwide recession with a budget boasting a record deficit and radical tax reforms that will help battered businesses, but risk a consumer backlash.

Ontarians will pay a single 13 per cent sales tax as of July 1, 2010 with most households receiving one-time $1,000 payments and personal tax cuts to ease the pocketbook pain, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan announced yesterday.

Market Research for all Stages of Business

In order to run a successful business, it is essential to know who your customers are, what they need or want, and how to reach them. Finding the information you need to determine your marketing plan can involve two types of research - primary and secondary.

Primary research involves collecting firsthand data through surveys, interviews, focus groups, direct observation and field testing. It provides information about customer attitudes, preferences, buying habits, tastes and behavior - information that is not otherwise available. Secondary research involves searching existing information like demographic data and industrial statistics.

Whether you're just starting your business, updating your marketing plan or preparing for growth, the Small Business Centre has resources available to assist with your market research.  Vist our library or make an appointment with Maja Pental, our Information Advisor at 519.659.2882 x227 to see how we can help you.
