Summer Company

The Small Business Centre and the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation, have come together in an exciting new venture aimed at helping youth become entrepreneurs.

Summer Company is an award program with two components consisting of up to $1,500 each for a total of up to $3,000 per successful candidate. It is a competitive program with a limited number of awards each year.

Applicants Must Meet the Following Criteria

1) Be between 15 and 29 years old and currently a student and returning to school in the fall (proof of enrollment required)

2) Proposing a new sole proprietorship or corporation in Ontario that you plan to operate independently from relatives

3) Compose a business plan and submit it to the committee for evaluation.

4) Prepared to make a commitment of at least 35 hours a week (minimum of 8 to 12 weeks) and not working for more than 12 hours at another job

5) A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant residing in Ontario

6)New to Summer Company - you can't be a previous recipient of a Summer Company award

7) Applicants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their application.

8) Agree to follow government rules and regulations for operating a business.
