Rebecca Benati: Rebecca Benati, RMT
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Rebecca Benati and I run my own Massage Therapy business out of the Chiropractic Centre in Dorchester. Growing up, I lived in Belmont which is a small town south of London. I have always had an interest in the human body and healthcare. After graduating high school, I knew I wanted to become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). I graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College with an advanced diploma in April of 2016. I became an RMT with the College Of Massage Therapist Of Ontario in July of 2016 and have been running my business ever since. As an RMT, I can assist people in reaching their optimal health and well being. This includes individuals ranging from infancy to geriatrics. In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends, playing soccer and downhill skiing.

Is there anything currently happening in the London business community that excites you?
There is always a lot going on in the London business community! Throughout my start-up, I was fortunate enough to take part in the business planning workshops at the Small Business Centre in London. I have been able to surround myself with many other motivated entrepreneurs. Currently, there are many seminars going on in the community which I am interested in attending. I believe continuing education is very valuable and allows advancements for personal growth and business development. It is not only the content learned from the instructor but the many ideas shared amongst entrepreneurs going through similar business experiences.
Can you tell us about an entrepreneur you admire and why?
There are many different entrepreneurs whom I admire and each one brings something different to the table. Every business owner has their own personal journey from start-up to running and expanding a business. I admire each one because we have all taken the leap and started something instead of sitting back. The traits that make these entrepreneurs stand out is their determination, commitment and passion for success.
What advice would you give to someone starting a small business today?
There are many aspects to a business and you don’t need to know them all. It is okay to ask for help and use the many resources that are provided within the community. When I first started my Massage Therapy business, I noted my strengths and areas that I would need advice and specific expertise. I connected with the Small Business Centre in London and for this reason, could further my entrepreneurial skills. I did this through seminars and one-on-one mentorships. It is important to create a network of individuals including friends, advisors, and mentors which will fill any knowledge gaps. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and meet with advisors on a regular basis. This will provide time to enhance and improve your business and overall skills for success.
